today's painting:
my mister surprised me with tickets to the tom petty and the heartbreakers concert last night! we met friends who were in on the surprise at the starving artist for dinner and walked over after. it was such a good show and so much fun! it was tp's first time in arkansas(!) in an over 35 yr career, hard to believe. i'd seen him before several times when i lived in dallas and he ALWAYS puts on a great show. last night did not disappoint. downtown was jammed due to the show and also the trav's double header all happening in argenta. loads of folks out and about and a great energy in the air plus a new moon......hmmmmm.
Greetings!
Hi, i'm Julie and I'm a visual artist. I work with a lot of different materials, including clay, paint, wood, and fabric. My studio is in Little Rock, Arkansas, and this blog is where I share studio goings on, new work, and occasional whatnot.

burritito and leonard cohen
today's painting:
my friend lynn took a picture of this little donkey while she was in mexico one time. it makes me want to travel somewhere kinda exotic and warm and preferably near the water......
also, i am sort of obsessed with leonard cohen right now. i go through this every few years. i have been listening to all my cds and records (yes, RECORDS!!) of his that i have.

oh, hello there
today's painting:
i kinda like the way this little guy is looking at me.
i love music and every once in a while i will go to the store to get paper towels and toothpaste and stuff like that and end up with 5 new cds. which is exactly what happened today. i got:
1. esperanza spalding - chamber music society ........this was a complete random purchase and i LOVE IT. it is fabulous, jazz, and she has an amazing voice. really different and totally cool vibe.
2. adele - 19.....what can i say? she is awesome and it's not news to anyone. i've been addicted to the concert in the royal albert hall so i got it.
3. the original jill scott from the vault vol. 1 .....i love jill scott and this was new to me. i can't wait to hear it. i KNOW it will be good. btw, if you are unfamiliar with her, go listen to her NOW. she is fantastic jazzy r&b. love her.
4. america - a horse with no name (and other hits)....one of my favorite songs when i was a kid was this song. it's kind of a greatest hits cd i guess. i couldn't resist it as it was only 4 bucks. i remember staying up really late one night and seeing america on tv - and we did not have cable. this was back when regular tv actually had some interesting live music programs with bands playing live music. LIVE! like an unplugged, but not unplugged. hmm. it was the 80's.
5. sade - the ultimate collection....i got this for my mister but i love her, too. velvet voice, cool vibe. what's not to like?
also, two days ago, i picked up a very she and him christmas at starbucks....i haven't listened to it yet, what with xmas being over, but i really like them and i know i will like it. even if i don't listen to it till next christmas. zooey deschanel is so quirky and adorable and i like the retro sound. it kind of makes me think of a david lynch film for some reason.

it's a habit... and some good stuff
my plan was to write everyday even if i thought i had nothing to say. just to get into the habit, ya know? as hard as it may be to break a habit, it seems just a difficult to start one. it's not so much finding the time as it is just sitting down and DOing it. so it seems. i've been busy with things like painting and sanding and nailing which all seem like really good excuses, don't they? not to mention working and relaxing and opening and closing doors for cats. i know, i know, it's an intense schedule to keep up with. but even in this pressure cooker, i am gonna give it another go.
"YOU CAN DO IT!" (cheers from the crowd)
.......and just as luck would have it and i was receiving this little pep talk, look what arrived in the mail.......
baxter will assist in the showcase.
.............drum roll.............
airmail, for moi?
a cheerful card and pressie (i can just hear her little accent saying this) from my sweet friend, kylie, all the way from down under!
ps i am loving it! thank you!!!
pps i was way more excited than baxter.
