Greetings!
Hi, i'm Julie and I'm a visual artist. I work with a lot of different materials, including clay, paint, wood, and fabric. My studio is in Little Rock, Arkansas, and this blog is where I share studio goings on, new work, and occasional whatnot.

moonshadows
today's painting:
we went to this place a couple of times last summer when we were in california. it was just down the road from where we came out of the canyon and had such an incredible view. sitting outside over the rocks as the waves crash, having a glass of wine and watching the seagulls try to steal the food right off of the plates of those people on the deck:)

buddhas
the house we stayed at in topanga had been worked on by a group of tibetans and so it was fitting that there were buddhas dwelling in and about as well as prayer flags flapping in the wind. it is a beautiful and peaceful place.

wood
of course we couldn't go the entire time away without visiting at least one estate sale. we found one in the valley and stopped to see what treasures we might find.
i discovered this stack of 6 wooden bowls inside a dark pantry and couldn't resist them. they just needed a little washing and they are so beautiful. i also found this kahlil gibran hard back. the flowers are from a walk about in the canyon.
lovely.
back home in little rock, bowls drying in the sun....

oh, can you see my little garden in the background? i arrived home to see it had survived our violent heat wave, thanks to the watering skills of my sister!
that's peppers, basil(tons of it) and the biggest marigolds i've ever seen, that are only now beginning to bloom as i planted everything late this year. i am trying to grow 2 tomato plants, but mostly the caterpillars have eaten them. sigh. i haven't done well with tomatoes the last few years, but i keep trying.

california
we were in california the last 10 days and it was complete heaven. it's been over 100 degrees and humid here so the 59 degree mornings were like a dream. and the cool ocean breezes. sigh. we stayed with friends in topanga canyon (LOVED IT!) and 2 days at seal beach (such a cute beach community!). i could so happily live there.............
we sat on a deck at moonshadows (a little restaurant/bar) overlooking the ocean in malibu, sipping white wine, watching the seagulls and the waves crash. a perfect afternoon.
even with the fog rolling in, it was warm and cool at once and completely gorgeous!
